According to performance characteristics and scope of application,disposable Surgical Masks can be divided into: medical protective masks, medical surgical masks, and ordinary medical masks.
1. Medical protective mask
It consists of a mask face and a tension band. The face of the face mask is divided into three layers: inner, middle and outer. The inner layer is ordinary sanitary gauze or non-woven fabric, the middle layer is ultra-fine polypropylene fiber meltblown material layer, and the outer layer is non-woven Fabric or ultra-thin polypropylene meltblown material layer. This high-efficiency medical protective mask is highly hydrophobic and breathable, and has a significant filtering effect on small virus-carrying aerosols or harmful dust. It has the functions of filtering bacteria, blocking liquid splashes with pressure and protecting the breathing safety of medical staff. As shown in Figure 2A.
2. Medical surgical mask
The mask is divided into 3 layers. The outer layer has a water blocking function to prevent droplets from entering the mask; the middle layer has a filtering function, which can block >90% of 5μm particles; the inner layer near the mouth and nose is used to absorb moisture. Medical surgical masks are suitable for basic protection of medical staff or related personnel, as well as protection to prevent the spread of blood, body fluids and splashes during invasive operations. They have strong resistance to bacteria and viruses, and can also be used to prevent influenza. As shown in Figure 2B.
3. Ordinary medical masks
Using two layers of non-woven fabric as the filter material of the mask, the filtration efficiency of particles and bacteria is lower than that of medical surgical masks and medical protective masks. It is mainly to prevent infection between doctors and patients or medical staff from being infected by inhaling pathogens in the environment, and the protective effect on pathogenic microorganisms is also relatively limited.
Three principles of surgical mask selection
1. Dust blocking efficiency of masks
The dust blocking efficiency of a mask is based on its blocking efficiency for fine dust, especially for respirable dust below 5μm.
2. How closely the mask fits the face shape
When the shape of the mask is not close to the face, the dangerous objects in the air will leak from the gap between the mask and the face and enter the human respiratory tract.
3. Wearing comfort
Masks require low breathing resistance, light weight, hygienic wear, and convenient maintenance, so that the wearers will be willing to wear them in the workplace and improve their work efficiency.
